Most office supplier in Ireland currently stock a wide range of printer cartridges available for next day delivery and at much more competitive price than they use to be, which is great for you the customer. However this product is a mover, what I mean by this is that the price changes, regularly.
We find that in general the price of an ink or toner cartridges is determined by the manufacturer i.e. if the price of manufacturing certain cartridges rises, the price for us to supply rises and inevitably the price for you the customer to buy one increases. We try to balance this as much as possible but we really are at the mercy of economy and the manufacturers cost.
A little tip: Ration your inks & switch your brand or be prepared to pay the price.
Many of our customers use a colour printer for everyday printing which is fine and all they want to do is print in black & white and have the option, when they need it to print in colour.
A colleague of mine in Office Spot who knows all the tricks of the trade and however embarrassing it may seem has a healthy but intimate knowledge of the products we stock…anyhow…I have overheard him on a few occasions assisting our heavy printing customers, declaring that if they monitor and replace when empty their black toner cartridge in a four cartridge printer (black, cyan, magenta and yellow) that you they will get much more ink for the
ir prints.
To explain further, in most laser and inkjet printers once the black toner is empty, the printer will then resort to creating the colour black from the 3 remaining full printer cartridges. This is not economical and I assume a lot of this comes from the mixing and mashing of colours across the semi absorbent print heads which wastes the ink. This sounded amazing to me too.
Anyhow the net result is that your printer will use up a lot more ink this way and result in you having to purchase a whole new set of inks just to print in black. So monitor your black ink and save your colour ink, if you simply want to print black and white document make sure it’s the black cartridges that is printing it!
So if you want to print until your heart’s content (and keep any extra few bob for the office Christmas party this year) do this:
Buy a mono laser printer, these only print in black. If you really need to print in colour take your graphics work or colour document to a printer, it will work out cheaper for you and you’ll be surprised how often you can do without colour. Look at the ballpoint pen scenario; what colour pen do you use to write? If it was me answering, I would say, Black mainly blue sometimes, but red and green, eh, not since I was in secondary school fighting for my leaving cert.
If you already have a colour laser or inkjet printer consider all of the above and maybe try a compatible cartridge in most instances they work fine for everyday printing in black and white, they are half the price and print the same amount of pages.
